Briefly introduce yourself and how you started Bboying.

RUEN:
My name is Ronnie Ruen, I started Bboying in 93 and I’ve been breaking for 14yrs.

내 이름은 Ronnie Ruen이고 1993년에 비보잉을 시작했고 14년째 하고 있다.

How did you get together with Style Elements?

어떻게 스타일엘레멘츠 멤버가 되었나?

RUEN:
We were in London one time and I was still in L.A Breakers but things weren’t really going good
with them and Donnie (Crumbs), Remind and all them asked me to get down with them.
It was a really good crew and I couldn’t stand back, I had to get in there because I looked up to
them when I was a kid, it was my dream.

내가 L.A Breakers 에 있을 당시 런던을 갔는데 우리 크루와 나는 잘 맞지 않았다.
근데 Crumbs와 Remind 등이 함께 하자고 해서 함께 하게 되었다. Style Elements는 정말 최고였고
내가 거절할 수 있는 그런 크루의 퀄리티가 아니었다. 내가 어렸을 때 보고 자라온 크루였고
함께 하는 게 꿈이었었기에 함께 하게 되었다.

Describe your Bboying style.

당신의 비보잉 스타일에 대하여 설명해주세요.

RUEN:
My Bboy style is Power moves also finesse, up rocks and all of it.

내 Bboy Style 은 Flava(개성.색깔)와 모든요소를 겸비한 파워무브이다.

KOREAN ROC:
Any inspirations?

당신이 영향받은 댄서가 있다면?

RUEN:
I have lot of inspirations; Ken Swift, Storm, Pablo, Jazzy Jay, Super Dave, Wicket and all the other ones
that are nasty haha. Everybody’s basically my inspiration, I get inspired by everything.

많은 영향을 받았다, Ken Swift, Storm, Pablo, Jazzy Jay, Super Dave, Wicket 그리고
정말 잘하는 많은 사람들이다 하하. 모두가 나에게 영향을 준다.

KOREAN ROC:
You have brought power moves into another level, where did you get the ideas?

당신은 비보잉계에 정말로 파워무브의 레벨을 몇단계 이상 레벨업시킨 업적을 이륙했다고해도 과언이 아니다.
그 시대를 앞선 아이디어 나 창조력 은 어디에서 나온것이냐??그 비결은??

RUEN:
Basically where I got my ideas, I was just practicing so hard and I just looked at all the
power move cats because that was what I liked the most and I tried to think different for all of them.
Of course Air Flare is my real inspiration but I tried to jump on another level. I’ve seen everybody, but
I just didn’t want to be like that so I tried to do a whole different thing.

내가 아이디어를 새롭게 하게 된 계기가 연습을 열심히 한것도 있지만 다른 파워무버들을 보면서
나는 똑같이 하고 싶지 않다는 생각을 하게 되어서 이다. 물론 에어트랙이 중점이지만 내 자신을 한단계 더
높게 하고 싶었고 다른사람들이랑 똑 같은 것을 하기 싫어서 나만의 무브들이 완성되었던 것 같다.

KOREAN ROC:
When was your greatest moment in Bboying?

비보잉을 시작한 이후 가장 최고의순간은??

RUEN:
Honestly, Freestyle Session 6 one of my greatest moments, Red Bull One, those are basically the
two greatest moments that I had and after that, I had torn my knee so I had to have a surgery
and everything. I’m starting up again but I will come back!

솔직하게 말하자면 프리스타일 세션 6 랑 LOTF인 것 같다. 그 두 대회가 가장 기억에 남는다. 하지만
그 후에는 내가 무릎을 다쳐서 수술도 받고 그랬다.
하지만 기다려라 나는 다시 일어날 것 이다.

KOREAN ROC:
When was your hardest time in Bboying?

그럼 반대로 비보잉을 시작한이후 가장 힘들었던 순간은?

RUEN:
My knee injury, it was so hard to dance because every time I bend my knee it would snap out so
it was just very hard for me to try to do what I did before. I just got really weak and I wasn’t dancing
for a year straight so I had to restart again basically. That was one of my hardest moments.

내가 무릎을 다쳤을 때다.
무릎을 구부리면 너무나 아파서 춤을 추기가 힘들 었고 내가 할수 있던 무브들도 하기가 힘들었다.
많이 약해졌고 1년동안 춤을 못 췄었다. 그래서 처음부터 다시 시작해야 했다. 그 시기가 가장 힘들 었다.

KOREAN ROC:
What did you learn by going through your hard times?

그 힘들었던 순간을 이겨낸후 비보이 로써 루인 당신에게 얻은것이 있다면?

RUEN:
I learned basically to try to reform myself because it was very hard to try to get up to that level
because I was already up there and I just dropped down and it’s hard to pick up but a lot of stuff
that I’ve seen like, with style and all started to bring me back up. Now I feel good, really good.

내 자신을 예전과 같이 돌려 놓기 위하여 많이 배웠다 왜냐하면 한때는 높이 있었다 추락 했기 때문이다.
하지만 스타일을 겸비하기 시작하니까 다시 오르고 있다. 지금은 정말 최고다!

KOREAN ROC:
This question might be similar to the previous questions but we heard that you had hard times after
winning the LOTF2001 by getting injured. Power move centered Bboying style that you have
shown has impressed many and they waited to see the brand new Ruen, but couldn’t see you for
a long time. There were many bad rumors about you, like you got smoked by someone. But
after your hard times, you came back, not only power moves, but all rounded with
your brand new moves as a Bboy. What has changed you? Environments? Influences?
How did you come back by changing crisis to chance?

위에 질문과 비슷한 질문의맥락이될수도있겠지만.
2001년 로드오브더플로어 우승 이후 심각한부상등으로 큰 슬럼프가 있었다고들었다.
파워무브 중심의 비보잉스타일을 보여주던 당신에게사람들은 다시 새로움을 갖고 돌아올 당신을
기대하였던거같다. 하지만 당신의 슬럼프는 꽤 길었던거같고이후 웹상을통하여 당신에 대한안좋은
소문이 많이돌았다. 당시 라이벌이라 불리었던 보이 나 오마르 등에게스모크를 당했다라는 소문부터..
하지만 슬럼프 이후 당신은 엄청난 파워무브 만을 구사하는 단순한파워무버 가 아닌 루인 당신만의
파워무브 라는특기를 갖추며 그밖에 부족했다고 평가받던 비보잉안에 다양한 모든요소를 완벽하게
마스터하며 레벨업을 하여 진정한 비보이로 다시 돌아왔다.어떤 깨달음과 생각의변화 환경 그리고
어떤 영향력이 있었기에 위기를 기회로 만들며 멋지게 돌아온것이냐??

RUEN:
A lot of those battles that I had, hey! You have to lose once. You can’t always be the best and
I don’t even consider myself the best but you can’t always be up there, there’s always
going to be somebody that will come up no matter what and that’s how I feel about it. Inspirations and
practice hard, I practiced so hard to try to redeem myself. I’m basically doing that right now.

많은 배틀이 있었지만, 이길떄도 있으면 질때도 있는 것이다! 항상 최고가 될수는 없는거고 내 자신을
최고라 생각하지는 않지만 항상 최고가 될수는 없다 왜냐하면 최고를 향해 달려오는 사람들이 꼭 있기
때문이다. 많은 영향을 받았고 예전처럼 되돌려 놓기 위해 연습을 정말 열심히 했다. 지금도 그러고 있다.

KOREAN ROC:
Your idea of Power moves in Bboying?

당신이 생각하는 비보잉안에서 멋진파워무브란??

RUEN:
Basically try to do new moves and stuff and that’s how I try to express myself. I just try different
stuff all the time, I see all these cats now and I’m just trying to be different, I’m not trying to stay with
everybody else and do the same type of power moves. I’m trying to create different moves but
it’s really hard, it’s really hard to create power moves but I’m working on it.

새로운 무브를 많이하는게 내자신을 표현하는 거라 나는 믿는다. 항상 새로운걸 시도 해보고 다른사람들을
많이 보지만 난 그저 다르고 싶을 뿐이다 남들과 같은 것을 하는건 다르지 못하다. 새로운 파워무브들을
만들려하지만 정말 힘들고 만들어내는 건 진짜 힘든일이기 때문이다 하지만 나는 노력하고 있다.

KOREAN ROC:
Bboys doing mainly power moves and tricks are sometimes called ‘not Bboys.’ or “Hurb”
What do you think about that?

파워무브나 트릭적요소들을 중심으로 구사하는비보이들이 가끔은 낫비보이 라는 악평을 듣기도한다.
그것에대하여 어떻게 생각하는가?

RUEN:
It’s true, basically if you don’t have anything else but power moves, you aren’t complete.
If you come out, not dancing and then you just jump into a power move even without your regular
toprock but just jump into a power move and you don’t freeze or nothing, it’s not really that good. It’s
good to have what you have but you have to also learn from other stuff and do little stuff into your stuff.

사실이다 파워무브말고 아무 것도 없으면 완벽한게 아니다. 나와서 춤도 안추고 기본 탑락도 안하고 그저
파워무브만 한다면 그건 정말 못 하는 것이다. 할줄 아는건 좋은데 다른 것도 배워서 이미 할줄아는것에
다른것도 추가하는 것이다.

KOREAN ROC:
Why do you think there is a controversy of ‘Power vs. Style’ in Bboying?

무엇때문에 비보잉신 안에서 파워와 스타일의 대립이 일어나는것인거같냐?

RUEN:
Because power moves is basically more of a spinning, but style is more of finesse and
footwork, freezes and all that and I don’t really think it’s any different. Power can look like style and
style can look like style, that’s what I think.

파워무브가 기본적으로 도는 것이기 때문이다 하지만 스타일은 색깔과 풋웤 프리즈 등등. 하지만
두 개가 다른건 아니다, 파워무브를 스타일처럼 할수 있고 스타일을 파워무브처럼 할수 있기 때문이다.

KOREAN ROC:
Describe ‘Foundation.’

당신이 생각하는 파운데이션 이란??

RUEN:
Footwork, freezes, top rocks, finesse and originality.

풋웤, 프리즈, 탑락, Flava, 그리고 오리지날리티이다.

KOREAN ROC:
Describe ‘Battle.’

당신이 생각하는 배틀이란??

RUEN:
Basically it’s a challenge no matter what like a competition or anything else. It’s really hard to be
in a battle because everybody’s looking at you, you are right there on the spot so it’s hard like that
but that’s what you practice for and that’s what you train for; to be on the spot.

도전하는 것인데 대회든 어디든 배틀을 할때는 정말 힘든게 모든 사람들이 쳐다보고 있고
스포트라이트를 받기 때문에 당연한게 힘들다 하지만 배틀을 위해서 하는 것이 아닌가!

KOREAN ROC:
The most memorable Battle?

가장 기억에 남는 배틀은??

RUEN:
Killafornia vs. Massive Monkeys, Killafornia vs. Jive Turkeyz.

KOREAN ROC:
What is the relation between Bboying and Music?

비보잉과 음악과의 관계는 무엇인가??

RUEN:
Basically that’s what Bboying is all about, you are on the beat, you have to be dancing with that
beat and you have to move to that beat.

비보잉의 전부라 할수 있다. 비트와 함께 하고 비트에 춤을 추고 비트 때문에 움직이는 것이다.

KOREAN ROC:
How can you explain power move and music becoming one?

파워무브 와 음악이 하나가된다는것은 무엇을말하는것인가?

RUEN:
You can hit many power moves on music; it goes together you just have to hit those hits

파워무브를 음악에 맞출수 있다 딱딱 맞게 하나가 될수 있다.

KOREAN ROC:
Your own rule in Bboying?

당신이 생각하는 비보잉의 룰이란 혹시 갖고 계신가요?

RUEN:
No rules in Bboying, it’s all basically one rule; just that! Bboying! That’s the rule!

룰은 없다! 한가지 룰이라면 비보잉 그자체가 룰이다!

KOREAN ROC:
Any next goals?

당신의 비보이로써 다음목표가 있다면??

RUEN:
Come up again, basically that’s my next goal and also to battle all the cats that I had problems with
because it’s like I have problems with them but then also we are basically on a even tip so I just
have to finish off what I want to finish off, the people that I want to serve; I need to smoke them!

다시 예전처럼 잘하는 것이 나의 목표이고 나와 문제가 있었던 비보이들과 배틀을 하는 것이다.
그 사람들과 나는 지금 동등한 시점에 있기 때문에 내가 끝내고 싶은 것을 끝내려 하는 것뿐이다.
내가 배틀에서 serve하고 싶은 사람들, smoke 하고 싶다!

KOREAN ROC:
What do you think about the Korean Bboys?

한국의 비보이들에대하여 어떻게 생각하십니까??

RUEN:
Sick! There are just into some crazy shit! You go to the states you don’t see shit like that, I mean
you do of course but there’s just so many crews that have good shit, there’s always somebody that
proves off something nasty but in the state it’s not really like that. There are only certain crews that
have good people but all the rest of the crews are just like whatever.

최고다! 정말 말로 표현 할수 없다. 미국에 가면 이런 광경들을 자주 보지 못한다, 물론 보기는 하지만 한국에는
잘하는 크루들이 너무나 많다. 미국에서는 몇몇 특정 크루에만 잘하는 사람들이 있고 나머지는 별루다.
